Abstract
Most of germinomas are known to occur at the pineal gland and the suprasellar region. And few cases have been reported about germinoma which is not originated from pineal gland and the suprasellar region. We report a rare case of pediatric intraparenchymal germinoma which was located in the basal ganglia. A 10-year-old male patient presented with 2 weeks of headache, vomiting and left side weakness. A large mass at the right basal ganglia, accompanying multiple cysts which were enhanced peripherally, was seen on brain magnetic resonance imaging. With transcortical approach, the mass with multiple stage hemorrhage was removed subtotally. The histopathological diagnosis of the tumor was a germinoma. The patient underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy as adjuvant treatments after the surgery. Left hemiparesis was improved after surgery and no further neurologic deterioration was noted. We experienced a good clinical outcome in a very rare case of intraparenchymal germinoma of a pediatric patient.
